Just one important point I would raise again, because I think that the phrasing of the title is harmful to the debate and promotes misunderstanding. Great conversation by Yann LeCun and Andrew Ng. And it seems that ChatGPT has now gained much more than that! With precise mathematical calculations using the Wolfram Language 🔢, That's beyond exciting! How could we solve that? Instead of pushing LLM to do what it's not designed for, let's give it a calculator to use. It can approximate or even rely on memorized results within a certain range, but beyond that, it's left with just an "intuition" about the results. I've argued in a few comments that while GPT-4 can "reason" its way through complex math problems quite effectively, it still falls short in areas like basic arithmetic (and, as an LLM, I'd argue it might never truly master it, since math is more than just vectorized embeddings and concept associations). 🤯 Wow, are you kidding? ChatGPT integrated with a Wolfram Language add-on would now be capable of doing symbolic math.
